Outline:

An accelerated lifetime testing procedure for dynamic pressure transducers should be developed based on the engine conditions described by the gas turbine manufacturers. This could also be used to determine failure rates and lifetime of transducers. Required temperatures, temperature gradients, shock, vibration, proof pressure, radiation, temperature cycles, etc..

Outline:

A basic health check procedure that users of dynamic pressure transducers can follow shall be developed. The procedure can have different levels and shall be created for different transducer technologies separately. For example, a basic level consisting of visual inspections, resistance and capacitance measurements, an advanced level which requires some calibration hardware, and a level that can only be performed by the transducer manufacturers.

P91

Outline:

Description of conditions within different sections of gas turbines that dynamic pressure transducers are expected to withstand (cold hot cycles, temperature gradients, lifetime, time between inspections, vibration levels). Current limitations can be mentioned and requirements to surpass them can be drafted. This input is also needed to develop accelerated lifetime testing procedures tailored to the application in gas turbines. Nominal operating conditions and worst case conditions shall be specified. The description can be grouped for various power classes of gas turbines.

P92

Outline:

This chapter shall provide an overview of all relevant terms and definitions for dynamic pressure measurements in gas turbines. It shall be based on ISA-S37.1 Electrical Transducer Nomenclature [1] and provide definitions for the terms used in this document. The terminology shall be updated continuously and all relevant sources shall be mentioned. The presented status is based on the work of the prior EVI-GTI standardization efforts with additions from mainly ISA-S37.1. The presented definitions can be used for further work, the grouping and content represents a first draft of the terminology section. Definitions without indications regarding the source are from “A Standard for Dynamic Pressure Measurements in Gas Turbines” [21].

1/f Noise – Electrical noise resulting from fluctuations in mobility within a sensing material. 1/f Noise is expressed in µV rms over a specified bandwidth. Alternatively, 1/f noise can be specified as a power spectral density in units of .

Angle of Incidence – The angle between the axis of the sensor’s diaphragm and the approaching dynamic pressure wave [20]. The angle of incidence is shown in Figure 12.1 below.

ATEX Certifiable – An ATEX certificate is needed to demonstrate that an equipment can be safely operated in a potentially explosive atmosphere created by the presence of flammable gas, vapor, mist or clouds of combustible dust. ATEX 95 equipment directive: directive 94/9/EC, Equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
